In recent years, Medex has inherited many diverse legacy and home-grown systems due to acquisitions, making it impossible to support the company's operations on a global scale. SmartDoc was purchased in 2003 to eliminate redundancy within the systems and to manage all critical documents, best practices and SOPs from one centralized location. As the additional acquired sites were added, the need for access to SmartDoc greatly increased.
