In today’s competitive economy, pharmaceutical companies are looking at faster ways for bringing innovation to market. Companies are trying to quickly counter generics for eroding patents, introducing new brands or acquiring biotech companies in order to supplement their existing product pipelines. Speed to market and cost of doing the research in-house in developing new products are key concerns, resulting in a growth in outsourcing, not just in manufacturing, but in pre- and formulation laboratories. New partnerships are being established, especially among small and mid-size pharmaceutical companies, with research groups and labs at leading universities and private laboratories.
